Special Symposium:
An introduction to the linguistics of Japanese children’s English learning

We often hear Japanese parents say they want their children to become proficient in English because they themselves are not. It is widely believed that acquiring a second language is more efficient during early childhood. In this public symposium, we will present relevant research data in an understandable way and aim to unveil the true nature of Japanese children’s English learning. We will specifically focus on topics such as elementary-school English, bilingual development in foreign countries, language learning at international schools, and so-called “Home English.” We will engage in interactive discussions with the audience.
